Do we have a wonderful treat for you in this June’s monthly meeting! Illustrators Corinna Luyken and Carrie O’Neill share their work process.

 Join us in Demaray Hall at SPU for the June SCBWI-WWA meeting. We will take a video stroll through two illustrator studios featuring Corinna Luyken and Carrie O’Neill. After the video, both illustrators will answer questions from the audience about their work.

Here is an outtake of the video which didn’t make it into the final cut due to time, but lucky for you I made it it’s own video! Corinna and Carrie chat about their friendship (and how awesome SCBWI is) and how they approach storytelling.

I was invited to Corinna Luyken and Carrie O’Neill’s beautiful homes and had the privilege visit their studios in Olympia, WA. It was inspiring to see their workspaces and take a peek at their process, plus drool over all the great art supplies. I’d like to thank them for being generous and gracious hosts!

It was a joy to watch two wonderful friends interact and talk about their work. I wish I had the camera rolling the whole time. They’d be talking about the craft of illustration off camera and I would tell them “Let’s use that for the video!”

I came into the interview with a preconceived idea of what to talk about, but nothing beats the spontaneous ideas they came up with. They know each other’s work and process and would often remind each other of the intentions behind their work.

I couldn’t leave the above video gem on the cutting room floor. See you on Saturday morning, June 1, 2019 for the main feature!
