Join Us for a Weekend with Elizabeth Law!

We are thrilled to host Holiday House editor Elizabeth Law September 23–24, 2023, for a full slate of Zoom-based events!

Elizabeth’s lecture We Don’t Talk About Cash Flow (No, No) kicks off the fun Saturday, September 23, at 8:00 AM PT. She’ll spill an earful of news you can use, including 7 surprising things editors really care about and 3 you can stop worrying about.

Her unique Picture Book Intensive follows Saturday at 9:30 AM PT. Elizabeth will lead the group in workshopping a limited number of attendee PB manuscripts. Note: If you missed grabbing a seat in Sunday’s sold-out roundtable consultations, keep in mind that this intensive provides a limited opportunity to submit a manuscript-in-progress for Elizabeth to potentially include in the discussion! Instructions for submitting a manuscript for consideration will be sent to registrants starting no later than September 5 and ending by September 15.

Saturday afternoon features Crafting a Kidlit Career, a 1:00 PM PT conversation between Elizabeth Law and author Lisa L. Owens. They’ll touch on the acquisitions process, the editor-author relationship, and Elizabeth’s best advice for creating and sustaining a career as a children’s book creator. Plenty of Q&A time will be included!

We’ll close out Saturday with a fun (and FREE) 3:00 PM PT Mingle, during which you will join industry colleagues for a social hour with Elizabeth Law.

And, of course, we’ll host Elizabeth + all Roundtable Consultations ticket holders for the sold-out sessions on Sunday, September 24, at 8:00 AM PT (Group 1) and 10:00 AM PT (Group 2).

See you all soon!

About our guest: In college, Elizabeth Law dreamed of becoming a children’s book editor, so after college she moved to New York City and did just that. She spent 18 years at Viking Children’s Books, leaving to become Associate Publisher of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. Next, Elizabeth was Publisher of Egmont USA for five years, and now she works as a senior editor at Holiday House.

Elizabeth is looking for middle grade and YA fiction in particular, but is also the editor of picture books. She likes all sorts of books, and always appreciates funny or moving middle grade and YA manuscripts, and picture books on interesting subjects. Elizabeth also works with private clients as a freelance editor and book coach. To learn more, visit elawreads.com, and follow her on Twitter @elawreads for tips about writing and getting published.
